Head Of User Experience - 100% Remote (latam/us/canada)

Product · Full-time · Piedmont, Italy

Job description

What is the role?

dotCMS is a cloud-based universal CMS that is changing how enterprises do digital. We seek a Head of User Experience with expertise in product design, design leadership, UX best practices, iterative design, information architecture, usability and accessibility research, content design, and design systems.

As Head of User Experience, you will join our dynamic UX team in the Product organization, leading product design, mentoring the design team, and acting as the primary design leader within dotCMS. You will advocate for our design team, sharing best practices and educating designers on both the strategic and tactical aspects of product design. Additionally, you will collaborate cross-functionally with external stakeholders, as well as internal teams such as product, engineering, and marketing.

We're proud to be 100% remote! dotCMS has been fully remote for over a decade and as an employee, you may work remotely from any location that is compatible with standard U.S. business hours (unless specified otherwise).

Please note this is a full-time position for the US or Canada or a full-time contractor position for other LatAm locations. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.

What is dotCMS?

Founded in 2003, dotCMS is the most agile, scalable, and secure content management system for enterprises. Built on leading Java technology, dotCMS is an open-source, universal content management system that gives developers the flexibility of a headless CMS while equipping marketers with no-code visual content authoring. Whether you're building a network of global websites, an employee intranet, a customer portal, or a single-page web application, dotCMS helps you manage content, images, and assets in one centralized location and deliver them to any channel. Some of our notable customers include Telus, Standard & Poors, Hospital Corporation of America, Royal Bank of Canada, Deutsche Bank, Comcast, Vodafone, Thomson Reuters, Dairy Queen, Lennox International, Chewy.com, and O’Reilly Autoparts.

Who are we, really?

At “the dot,” you’ll find a diverse team of authentic individuals who share the goal of building the most agile, scalable, and secure content management system, delighting customers, and having a lot of fun doing it. We’re a curious, innovative, and collaborative group that works from anywhere, having been 100% remote long before a pandemic required it. Working remotely is in our DNA, whether it’s to enjoy the beautiful views of new countries or just more “you” time outside of work. And since we don’t gather around the water cooler in an office, we like to gather around the cool waters of the Caribbean a few times a year for our regular off-sites, where we blow off some steam and re-energize as a group.

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic leadership and vision for the UX organization by defining and executing a cohesive design strategy that aligns with product roadmaps and business objectives while leading the evolution of design systems to ensure consistency, scalability, and efficiency in UX efforts, driving alignment in design decisions.

  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and grow a global team of high-performing designers, sharing best practices and educating and mentoring them on both strategy and execution. Promote creativity, collaboration, and professional development, fostering an environment that values continuous learning, growth, and the sharing of deep expertise in design methodologies, design systems, interaction frameworks and models, wireframing and prototyping, and usability research.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with leadership, product, engineering, and marketing teams to seamlessly integrate design vision and user experience into product strategy and execution.

  • Continuous Improvement: Establish and monitor UX and usability KPIs, driving enhancements through user feedback and rigorous testing.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with executive leadership and Product to integrate user insights from internal and external stakeholders into strategic decisions and product roadmaps.

  • User-Centered Design: Direct the creation of user interaction flows, iterative wireframes and prototypes, and design systems and content style guides, ensuring they meet user requirements, enhance overall product usability, and advance business outcomes.

Why we get excited about you:

  • 7+ years of experience in UX, UI, Design, or UX Research roles, with a significant focus on product design, usability, and design process.

  • At least 2 years in a leadership role managing Design/UX teams.

  • Proven track record of:

    • Understanding of web technologies, CSS, and HTML.
    • Extensive experience with Figma.
    • Experience using at least one prototyping tool.
    • Developing user-centered design solutions and usability strategies.
    • Understanding of information architecture, UX and accessibility research, and content design.
    • Working with multicultural and 100% remote teams.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with other teams.
  • Content Management System experience would be a plus.

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, UX, Computer Science, or a related field.

Why should you join?

If you have great experience but are tired of being a cog in a giant corporate wheel, this job is for you. It’s a chance to create a new product marketing function at an established, growing company with a mature product in use by major global organizations. Everything you do every day, will make a huge impact on our company. Your work will be seen, felt and recognized and your past experience valued.

dotCMS is at an exciting inflection point in its history, as we continue to make our mark as the visionary Universal CMS, uniquely well-positioned for the omnichannel and tech-agnostic future. But to reach these lofty ideals, we need a Head of User Experience with great chops both in day-to-day product design execution and long-term strategy when it comes to design systems, user experience research, accessibility and usability, iterative design, and content design. We recently introduced a new structure in our R&D organization and new design processes that allow our UX function to fight effectively for what it deems most important—and we need someone to lead it to even greater success” —Preston So, VP of Product.
