Principal & Geotechnical Engineer at Douglas Partners Pty Ltd

David is a Principal of Douglas Partners with over 24 years consulting experience in geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, earthworks and related disciplines while based in Australia. He commenced employment with DP in April 1993 after completing a Bachelor of Engineering at James Cook University of North Queensland.

David has worked on projects in Brisbane, Melbourne, Hobart, Perth and Darwin as well as regional NSW and Qld. He has been involved in a wide variety of project works for commercial and industrial projects, major hospitals, universities and institution buildings, roads and railways, power stations and water retention systems. David specialises in soil and rock slope investigation, stability analysis, design and stabilisation of road cuttings, slopes, and deep basement excavations including shoring analysis, design, and construction supervision. David has also undertaken soft soil settlement analysis, including preload design, monitoring and reporting at the Brisbane Airport and the Port of Brisbane as well as deep piled foundations at these same locations.

David’s work at Douglas Partners has included innovative design work on the basement of the ‘Soul’ high-rise residential development in Surfers Paradise for which Douglas Partners was awarded a Certificate of Recognition in 2010 by Consult Australia. The project comprised deepening the existing one and two-level basements to create a new three-level basement. The innovative composite basement wall combined re-use of the existing upper basement wall sections with a new lower soil mix wall which substantially reduced basement construction costs.
