The Dream.Org Engagement Team internship program is

A 12-week internship program for young people, students, or highly motivated individuals looking to gain crucial experience in digital engagement tools for Dream.Org, a social justice organization closing prison doors and opening doors of opportunity into the green economy. We bring people together across racial, social, and partisan lines to create a future with freedom and dignity for all. Dream.Org’s three programs are Justice, Tech, and Green For All.

Program:

We are seeking a Digital Organizing Intern for the Summer of 2024. The intern will work with our Digital Organizing Manager, Digital Organizers, and campaign/organizing staff from Dream.Org’s programs in helping design and execute dynamic engagement systems, tactics, and tool use in support of... 

  • Building an equitable, green economy by fostering common ground on climate change.
  • Keeping people out of prison, improving prison conditions, and bringing people home.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Our Digital Organizing Intern will assist the Digital Organizing Manager in executing our climate justice campaign, which aims to mobilize public support for funding for clean energy projects. The intern will be involved in numerous tasks, including helping develop a campaign from inception to completion, providing technical support during webinars, engaging with supporters and helping manage volunteers, building lists from our database for outreach, and creating as well as deploying campaign tools and resources. Additionally, the intern will organize events, support various campaign priorities, and ensure operational success.

As an Organizing Intern, you will be expected to communicate effectively through Slack, email, phone calls, and virtual meetings with a range of diverse individuals nationwide, including staff, network organizers, and volunteers, to facilitate their involvement and support their efforts.

  • Support the Digital Organizing Manager in ongoing campaign priorities and co-lead a campaign committee.

  • Become familiar with database management and data structure with Dream.Org’s primary customer relationship manager (CRM), ActionKit.

  • Deepen their domain knowledge of advocacy, with an emphasis on green economic development but also criminal justice reform and tech equity while refining concrete skills and skilling up in the use of various digital tools, strategy and tactics.

  • Help execute a broad range of engagement tactics as needed, including but not limited to: overseeing distributed events in Mobilize, peer texting, text broadcasts, online petition-building, phone banking, volunteer management, survey composition, virtual meeting facilitation, and more.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Great communication skills / high emotional intelligence.
  • 1-2+ years working or volunteering in a team-oriented business/organization.
  • History of engaging in changemaking/service work, in a volunteer or professional capacity.
  • Ability to seek out help when necessary (all questions are welcome!); Willingness to

        ‘fail fast’ and learn from missteps.

  • Experience working/volunteering in issue-based organizing or electoral campaigns

  • Writing competency: the ability to submit written copy with minimal need for edits OR to quickly learn what goes into excellent copywriting.

  • Strong desire to make change across one or all of the systems that Dream.Org works across.

Compensation:

To ensure their personal financial situations are not a barrier to participation and to

compensate them for the value of their work, Interns will receive stipends for their 12 weeks at Dream.Org. They will be paid at $16.50/hour for 20-30 hours/week (number of hours per week negotiated upon offer) on a bi-weekly basis. Hours are flexible as this intern will support a bi-coastal team. However, it is a requirement to be present at each one of our biweekly meetings (Mobilization Meetings, Monday, 11am PT/2pm ET; or Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund campaign meetings Thursday, 1pm PT/4pm ET) and report to work at least two days between Monday - Friday. There may be limited evening and weekend work in advance of major programming or in response to current events. 

Our headquarters are in Oakland, California. The Digital Organizing Intern is NOT required to live in the Bay Area, however, should a Bay Area resident be selected, they are welcome to come into the office on a basis to be agreed upon with their manager. Interns are not expected to travel but may have the opportunity to (expenses paid), if the budget permits and it is strategic.
