DeKort began their career in 1995 as a Network Telecommunications Engineer at ANS/UUNET/Worldcom. Jolean remained in this position until 2001 when they took on the role of Sr. Telecommunications Analyst at Gannett. Jolean held this position until 2004 when they became a Telecommunications at Flint Group. Jolean stayed in this role until 2007 when they moved to GoDaddy.com.
