Hongbo (Michael) Lin

Senior Mechanical Engineer at Droplette

Hongbo (Michael) Lin has worked in various engineering roles since 2016. In 2016, they worked as a New Product Engineering Co-op at Tiffany & Co., where they communicated with operators and documented production processes to estimate the total cost of new products and to identify any opportunities to reduce cycle time. Hongbo (Michael) also measured components at various stages of the manufacturing process and inspected products and analyzed problems. In 2017, they worked as a Mechanical Engineering Co-op at SharkNinja, where they conceptualized and prototyped robot subsystems, conducted testing for multiple projects, and compiled and benchmarked over 20 consumer cleaning products in the Chinese market. In 2018, they worked as a Mechanical Engineering Intern at SharkNinja, where they performed design verification work and directed alternate component selection and validation testing for user interface panels. In 2019, they worked as a Mechanical Engineer at SharkNinja, where they co-invented a self-cleaning brush roll and created the debris fin concept, led optimizations of the robot cleaning system, and analyzed the shortcomings of the existing pet hair pickup validation test. Currently, they are working as a Sustaining Engineer II at Droplette and as a Mechanical Engineer at suitX Innovation Hub (dba Ottobock Bionic Exoskeletons), where they are leading the design of the next-generation back support exoskeleton, conducting mathematical calculations, generating CAD, selecting materials, performing FEA and tolerance stack-up analysis, creating engineering drawings, and communicating with machine shops for parts fabrication. Hongbo (Michael) has also drafted a patent for this design.

Hongbo (Michael) Lin began their education in 2014, when they enrolled at Northeastern University to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Hongbo (Michael) completed their degree in 2019. In 2021, they began a Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley, which they are currently pursuing. Additionally, they are a Certified SOLIDWORKS Professional, which was obtained through Dassault Systèmes.
