Shahab Syed (CPA)

Shahab Syed is a CPA with extensive experience in operational risk management. Shahab began their career in 1997 as a Senior Manager in Operational Risk Management at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Shahab then joined the Bank of Montreal in 1999 as Director of Operational Risk Management, where they managed the implementation of the ORM framework and tools. In 2003, Shahab moved to Freddie Mac as Director of Operational Risk, overseeing the design and implementation of key risk indicator programs. Shahab then joined Arab Banking Corporation as VP and Group Head of Operational Risk, where they set up the 2nd Line of Defence Operational Risk Management function. Shahab later became the SVP and Group Head of Operational Risk & Fraud Management at Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, leading the implementation of operational risk and fraud management frameworks. Shahab then worked at BenchMatrix Canada Ltd as Director of Risk Advisory, assisting clients in developing and implementing enterprise risk management frameworks. Most recently, Shahab served as the Head of Operational Risk at KEB Hana Bank Canada, where they implemented operational risk management programs and worked closely with regulatory bodies. Currently, they are the Director of Operational Risk Management at DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd. In this role, they are responsible for establishing the operational risk management function and implementing risk management frameworks.

Shahab Syed has a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification from the California Board of Accountancy. Additionally, they hold a Diploma in Banking from the Institute of Bankers. Shahab completed their Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm) degree with a focus on Commerce from the University of Karachi.
