Muir Kumph

John Muir Kumph is a manager at IBM since February 2016, focusing on quantum logic operations using superconducting tunnel junction devices. Previously, John held positions as a physicist and research staff member in quantum computing at IBM and completed a postdoctoral position at IQOQI, Austrian Academy of Sciences, working on a quantum network utilizing trapped atomic ions. Extensive experience includes scientific staff at Universität Innsbruck, where John specialized in experimental quantum optics, and engineering consultant roles at the University of Washington and E Ink Corporation, among others. John holds a Ph.D. in physics from Universität Innsbruck and multiple degrees in mechanical and ocean engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
