Matthew J Bottomley

Matthew J Bottomley is an accomplished biochemist with extensive experience in vaccine design and structural biology. Currently serving as Executive Director at Dynavax Technologies since August 2021, Matthew previously held several leadership roles at GSK, including Function Head of Vaccine Design and Cellular Immunology and Function Head of Vaccine Design and Characterization. In these positions, Matthew managed teams of up to 35 professionals, overseeing various aspects of protein expression and characterization to support vaccine development. Prior to GSK, Matthew led the Structural Biology Unit at Novartis Vaccines and Diagnostics, and contributed as a Senior Research Biochemist at Merck. Educationally, Matthew holds a PhD in Biochemistry from UCL and a BA & MA in Biochemistry from the University of Oxford.
