Job description

Ready to make connectivity from space universally accessible, secure and actionable? Then you’ve come to the right place!

E-Space is bridging Earth and space to enable hyper-scaled deployments of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions and services. We are building a highly-advanced low Earth orbit (LEO) space system that will fundamentally change the design, economics, manufacturing and service delivery associated with traditional satellite and terrestrial IoT systems.

We’re intentional, we’re unapologetically curious and we’re 100% committed to innovate space-based communications and deliver actionable intelligence that will expand global economies, protect space and our planet and enhance our overall quality of life.

As a Communication Network Simulations Engineer, you will be responsible for responsible for modeling E-Space’s end-to-end communications network and solidify requirements for various components of the communications and networking stack.  In this role, you will leverage your 10 + years of expertise in system analysis and design of a multiple-access wireless communication network and 4+ years leading or managing a cross-disciplinary communication systems or networking team.   This position will work closely with systems, software, hardware and test teams that are responsible for delivering the communications payload.  This position is based in our Saratoga, CA office.

What you will do

  • Network to satisfy the requirements and drive subsystem requirements, design and test plans using simulation results.
  • Hire and build a strong team of systems and simulations engineers.
  • Provide data and analysis for performance metrics such as throughput, coverage, cost, etc. and assist with network planning, deployment planning, beam assignment, regulatory support.
  • Develop innovative solutions for complex problems such as beam management, interference mitigation, network routing, handover strategies in LEO networks.
  • Build realistic simulation models and conduct performance evaluations of PHY designs under diverse LEO scenarios.
  • Collaborate with subsystem teams – Antenna, RF, baseband, protocol and networking - to ensure design meets requirements derived from the modeling results.

What you bring to this role

  • MS or PhD in EE/CS/CE or a related field
  • 10+ years of systems and simulation experience, 4+ years of experience managing projects
  • Deep understanding of wireless communications principles, especially in the context of satellite systems.
  • Strong knowledge of communications theory, RF link budgets, channel coding techniques, multi-user detection techniques, Multicarrier modulation schemes, channel estimation, CFO/SFO compensation, channel modeling.
  • Strong knowledge of packet routing and forwarding protocols for IP and wireless mesh networks, and software-defined networking concepts.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools like MATLAB, Python, or specialized satellite network modelling software.
  • Excellent problem-solving with a from-first-principles approach.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.  Team player.

Bonus points for the following:

  • Strong knowledge of 3GPP standards, preferably 5GNR.
  • Strong knowledge of orbital dynamics.
