Jamie McGowan

Postdoctoral Scientist at Earlham Institute

Jamie McGowan is a Postdoctoral Scientist at the Earlham Institute since May 2020, specializing in bioinformatics and evolutionary genomics. Prior to this role, Jamie completed a PhD at Maynooth University from 2016 to 2020, focusing on genomic evolution in plant pathogenic Phytophthora species and other oomycetes. Jamie served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant and Laboratory Demonstrator at Maynooth University, where responsibilities included teaching bioinformatics, cellular biotechnology, comparative genomics, environmental biology, immunology, and proteomics to undergraduate and postgraduate students. Additionally, as an intern funded by the Maynooth University SPUR program, Jamie developed a collaborative annotation tool for Moodle aimed at enhancing teaching effectiveness and student engagement. Jamie earned a Bachelor of Science Double Honours in Biology and Computer Science from Maynooth University in 2016 and completed secondary education at Carndonagh Community School.
