Elizabeth Gitari-Mitaru

Elizabeth Gitari-Mitaru is a seasoned legal professional specializing in conservation and environmental law, currently serving as Legal Counsel for Earthacre since January 2022. As Managing Partner and Lead of the Natural Resources and Sustainability Law Division at OGO-LAW ADVOCATES since January 2017, Elizabeth has extensive experience in conservation and natural resource law, as well as environmental litigation and policy advisory. Elizabeth also holds leadership roles as Board Chairperson for the East African Wild Life Society and as a member of the Board of Trustees for Kijabe Forest Trust USA Incorporated. Additionally, Elizabeth has contributed to academia as a faculty member at Riara University and Africa Leadership University. Previous positions include overseeing legal affairs at WildlifeDirect Inc. and heading legal support at Kenya Land Conservation Trust, focusing on innovative conservation tools. Elizabeth holds a PhD in Environmental Law and a Master’s degree in Environmental Law and Policy from the University of Nairobi, complemented by a post-graduate diploma in law and a Bachelor of Laws degree.
