Cameron Walkup is a Legislative Assistant at EARTHJUSTICE. Prior to that, they worked as a Climate Justice Research Intern at Uplift Climate and as a Cultural Areas Protection Interm at The Wilderness Society. At Uplift Climate, they conducted GIS analyses and created maps showing the extent of oil, gas, coal, and uranium development on the Colorado Plateau and the prevalence of those forms of extraction within BIPOC communities. At The Wilderness Society, they conceived of and drafted legislation to create a process to identify and rename offensively named landmarks and public lands, igniting a campaign which culminated in a 2021 Secretarial Order to begin evaluating and renaming offensively named places.
Cameron Walkup attended the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where they studied geography and environmental studies. They earned a BA in this field.
They are on a team with Daniel Savery - Senior Legislative Representative, Kristin Butler - Associate Legislative Representative, and Nathan Park - Associate Legislative Representative. Cameron Walkup reports to Coby Dolan, Legislative Director.
