Chief Data Scientist at EarthSense

Thomas Aref has a diverse range of work experience in various fields, with their most recent role being Chief Data Scientist at EarthSense, Inc. Since 2019, they have been leading projects focusing on plant trait detection, analytics pipeline development, and multi-cloud migration. Prior to that, they worked as a Software Developer at Approved Bytes from 2017 to 2019, where they built frontends, integrated apps with Google Cloud/Firebase, and developed a 3D cross-platform app using Unity. From 2013 to 2017, Thomas served as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Quantum Physics at Chalmers University of Technology, conducting research on superconducting artificial atoms. Before that, they worked as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Experimental Low Temperature Physics at Aalto University School of Science and Technology from 2010 to 2013, where they conducted research, programmed Matlab data analysis and acquisition, and managed grant proposals and group webpages. Thomas also has extensive experience as a PhD Researcher in Experimental Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 2002 to 2010.

Thomas Aref earned their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Physics from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where they studied from 2002 to 2010. In addition to their academic qualifications, they also obtained certifications in "Data Science Foundations: Fundamentals" and "DevOps Foundations" from LinkedIn in September 2017.
