Dr. Stella B. Biira has a diverse work experience in the financial and healthcare sectors. In 2023, they founded The Immaculate Diabetes Center and currently serves as the Founding Director. Prior to this, they were a Member of the Board of Directors at the Brazelton Touchpoints Center at Boston Children's Hospital starting in 2022.
In 2019, Dr. Biira joined Eastern Bank as the Vice President of Enterprise Risk Management, focusing on Credit Risk Review. Stella'sresponsibilities included reviewing and analyzing complex commercial credits, assessing loan relationships, and preparing Credit Risk Review Findings Reports.
Before joining Eastern Bank, from 2015 to 2019, Dr. Biira worked at Santander Bank, N.A. in different roles. Stella served as the Vice President of Underwriting and Portfolio Management, evaluating the financial performance of borrowers and managing risk exposure. Stella also held the position of Vice President of Risk, overseeing IFIS and Country Risk.
Earlier in their career, Dr. Biira worked at State Street as a Corporate Lender and Wealth Management / HNW Lender. Stella also served as a Credit / Counterparty Review Analyst. Prior to State Street, they served as a Credit Analyst at Boston Private Bank and Trust Company.
Dr. Biira began their career as a Lending Officer at Centenary Bank in 2001.
Throughout their career, Dr. Biira has gained extensive experience in credit analysis, risk management, and portfolio management in the financial sector, and has made significant contributions in the healthcare industry as well.
Stella B. Biira, PhD has a diverse education history, encompassing various fields of study. Stella began their academic journey in 1997 at Makerere University, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Quantitative Economics. After completing their undergraduate studies in 2000, Stella went on to further specialize in economics and finance. From 2002 to 2004, they attended Brandeis International Business School, earning a Master's degree in International Economics and Finance.
Driven by an interest in public health, Stella pursued a Doctor of Philosophy degree at Walden University from 2016 to 2020. During this time, they focused on the field of Public Health. Following the completion of their PhD, Stella took a step towards expanding their knowledge and skills in the banking sector and leadership. From 2022 to 2024, they attended the ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking, where they studied Banking and Leadership.
Through their educational pursuits, Stella has developed a strong foundation in quantitative economics, international economics and finance, public health, and banking and leadership.
