Mark Metzler Sawin is a distinguished academic serving as a Professor of History and Director of Honors at Eastern Mennonite University since August 2001, where responsibilities include teaching courses in United States history, redesigning the University Honors Program, and advising students. In addition to this role, Mark holds several editorial and leadership positions, including Managing Editor at Emu Editions and Co-Coordinator of American Studies for the Mid-Atlantic Popular & American Culture Association. With extensive involvement in the Eastern American Studies Association as an Executive Committee Member and former President, Mark has contributed to the oversight and organization of regional chapters of the American Studies Association. Mark’s academic influence extends internationally through visiting professorships at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb, LCC International University in Lithuania, and a previous role as a Fulbright Scholar. Mark earned a PhD in American Studies from The University of Texas at Austin in 2001, and holds an MA and BA in American Studies and English/Political Science, respectively.
