Sylvia N. Nyegenye holds a PhD in special education from the University of Kansas. She is a researcher and Easterseals’ assistant national director of childhood development, education, and equity. Her research examines systemic processes and individual practices that produce or disrupt academic and social opportunities for Black students with and without disabilities and their families. She also explores how school stakeholders can build culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogies that support effective learning for Black students with and without disabilities. Currently, she is involved in managing and innovating the center for equity in special education, housed under Easterseals’ Intersection Collective.
