- October 2021-December 2021: Interim Fire Chief, and September 2020-December 2021: Deputy Fire Chief Ops at Northshore Fire Department.

- September 2020-September 2021: Deputy Fire Chief Ops at Woodinville Fire & Rescue.

- May 2016-January 2021: Blue Card Incident Command Instructor at B shifter.

- June 2018-September 2020: Deputy Fire Chief of Response Operations at City of Bothell Washington.

Doug McDonald completed their Associates in Fire Science degree from Columbia Southern University in 2016. Doug then attended the National Fire Academy in 2013, where they obtained a degree in Executive Fire Planning. In 2018, they enrolled in the SFD Executive Leadership Academy at the Foster School of Business at the University of Washington but did not complete a degree. Doug is currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Fire Services Administration from Columbia Southern University.

In addition to their academic education, Doug has obtained several certifications. Doug received the Blue Card Instructor certification from B Shifter in May 2016. In May 2013, they obtained Fire Officer 1 and Fire Officer 2 certifications from WSP. In 2003, they obtained the Fire Service Instructor Certification from King County ODA/WSP.
