McLain Leonard has an extensive work experience spanning various industries and roles. They began their career as an Engineering Intern at Boeing in 2013. They then worked as a Process Engineering Intern at IM Flash Technologies in 2014 before becoming a Research Assistant at Montana State University from 2012 to 2015. In 2017, they worked as a Graduate Consultant at MedImmune and Woodside Energy. McLain then joined Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2015 and held multiple roles including Postdoctoral Researcher, Ph.D. Candidate in Chemical Engineering, and Station Director at the David H. Koch School of Chemical Engineering Practice. In 2021, they joined PARC, a Xerox Company, as a Senior Electrochemical Engineer and continued in the same role at Ebb Carbon from 2022.

McLain Leonard has an extensive education history in chemical engineering. McLain began their academic journey at Gonzaga Preparatory School, where they completed their high school education from 2007 to 2011.

In 2011, McLain enrolled at Montana State University-Bozeman and pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, which they successfully completed in 2015.

Subsequently, McLain joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where they furthered their studies in Chemical Engineering. From 2015 to 2017, they obtained a Master of Science in Chemical Engineering Practice (M.S.CEP). They continued their academic pursuit at MIT and acquired a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Chemical Engineering from 2015 to 2021.

In addition to their formal education, McLain Leonard possesses several certifications. They became an FE Certified engineer through NCEES in April 2015. Furthermore, they obtained the Open Water Diver certification from Scuba Diving International (SDI) in June 2018 and the Advanced Open Water Diver certification from SSI Scuba Schools International in March 2022.
