Katja Wildermuth

Katja Wildermuth is Director-General of Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Having previously served as Program Director of Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) and Head of Culture at Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR), Katja ascribes great importance to reaching the entire population with excellent programming and in these roles, she was responsible for numerous TV formats that were taken up by MDR, NDR, Das Erste and ARTE.

Katja came to journalism following a university career as a lecturer in ancient history at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. In 1994 she started as an editor at MDR and in 2004 became head of the MDR editorial team responsible for the content themes of history and society. There she took the editorial lead on a number of large cross-media projects and award-winning documentaries such as Under The Sun, Hitler's Children, Rabbits à la Berlin, Night Will Fall and Collective – Corruption Kills. During this time, Katja Wildermuth was also a member of the Board of the EBU Documentary Experts Group.
