Jeffrey Kitching

Executive Director at EdAdvance

Dr. Jeffrey Kitching began his tenure as the Executive Director of EdAdvance in April of 2016. Prior to his position at EdAdvance, Dr. Kitching had served as the Superintendent of Schools in Plainville, CT since 2011. He was a member of the Glastonbury, CT Public Schools for 20 years, as a teacher, special education administrator, elementary principal and as the district’s Assistant Superintendent. He began his career with the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, working in residential care facilities, and he has worked with, and on behalf of children in Connecticut for over 30 years.

He holds bachelor’s degrees in psychology from Eastern Connecticut State University and teaching certification in special education from Central Connecticut State University, a master’s degree and 6th year certificate of advanced studies in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. He holds a doctoral degree (Ed.D.) in educational leadership from CCSU.

As a teacher, he received a State Department of Education “Celebration of Excellence” award for creativity in the classroom. As an administrator, he was the recipient of the Connecticut Association of Schools “Outstanding First Year Principal Award” and has been recognized with a “Distinguished Alumni Award” from Central Connecticut State University. He completed the Harvard University, “Superintendent’s Leadership Institute” and was selected to participate in the Institute of Educational Leadership’s “Educational Policy Fellowship Program”. Dr. Kitching has served as an officer of the Hartford Area Superintendents Association and on numerous committees for the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents. In 2014, Governor Dannel P. Malloy appointed Dr. Kitching to the Connecticut Commission for Educational Technology.

Dr. Kitching also currently serves as an adjunct professor for the Department of Educational Leadership at Central Connecticut State University, teaching courses for aspiring administrators and superintendents.
