Sagar Chhangawala

Director, Computational Biology at eGenesis

Sagar Chhangawala has a diverse work experience in the field of computational biology. Sagar started as a Sales Associate at Sears Roebuck & Co in 2008 before transitioning to research roles. Sagar worked as a Graduate Assistant at New York University in 2011 and later on took on projects using Support Vector Machine classification at NJIT. Sagar then moved to Weill Cornell Medical College as a Research Associate in Bioinformatics before pursuing their Ph.D. at Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences. During their Ph.D., they worked on projects related to epigenetic regulation in cancer and immunology. After completing their Ph.D., they joined Neon Therapeutics as a Senior Scientist in Computational Biology where they focused on tumor molecular characterization and biomarker discovery. Sagar later transitioned to Flagship Pioneering as a Senior Scientist, where they developed algorithms for biomarker discovery and managed computational consultants. Currently, Sagar holds the role of Associate Director of Computational Biology at eGenesis, Inc., where they lead a team in developing computational algorithms for gene editing analysis.

Sagar Chhangawala completed an Associate Degree in Computer Science (Transfer) from Middlesex College in 2009. Sagar then pursued a Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics from New Jersey Institute of Technology from 2010 to 2011. Following this, they obtained a Master of Science in Bioinformatics from New York University in 2012. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Computational Biology from Joan & Sanford I. Weill Medical College of Cornell University between 2014 and 2019.
