Andrew Rundle

Dr. Rundle is a Tenured Professor of Epidemiology at Columbia’s Mailman School of Public Health and Co-Director of the Department’s Social and Spatial Epidemiology Unit. His research largely focuses on the causes of childhood and adult obesity and the cancer-related consequences of obesity, particularly for prostate cancer. For the past 15 years, he has directed childhood obesity research for the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health. As Co-Director of the Built Environment and Health Research Group, Dr. Rundle studies how neighborhood-built, social, economic, and medical environments impact health, health behaviors, and medical practice. His work on links between neighborhood-built and social environments and diet, physical activity, and obesity have influenced the New York City Active Design Guidelines, the New York City FRESH program to bring supermarkets to underserved neighborhoods, and the International WELL Building Institutes’ WELL Building and WELL Community design standards.

He has served on EHE’s Medical and Scientific Advisory Boards for over 15 years and has directed the company’s efforts to conduct clinical and public health research.
