Helen Kersting is the current Advisor at Eiteljorg Museum. Prior to their current position, they were the Gallery Director at Domont Studio Gallery and a Curatorial Research Intern at National Museum of the American. Helen has always been passionate about art and history which is why they pursued a career in museum work.
Helen's experience as a Curatorial Research Intern has given their the skillset to be successful in their current role as Advisor. During their time as an intern, they worked under curator Cecile Gantaume and research assistant Maria Galban. Helen was responsible for transcribing interviews with scholars and obtaining pertinent information for over 700 objects that were featured in the 2010 exhibition Infinity of Nations. In addition, they performed extensive research regarding the provenance of objects in the museum's collection and assisted in the housing of 50+ quilts that were recently acquired by the museum.
As Gallery Director at Domont Studio Gallery, Helen was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the gallery. This included overseeing exhibitions, working with artists, and promoting the gallery. During their time at Domont, they successfully increased attendance by 20%.
Helen's experience in both museums and galleries has given their a well-rounded understanding of the industry. Helen is able to use their knowledge to advise museum staff on best practices and help promote exhibitions.
Helen Kersting's educational career includes a Bachelor's degree in General Studies from Indiana University.
