Steven LIN

Sr. Director Of R&d, Head Of Platform Development at Elegen

Steven LIN has over 19 years of experience in research and development. From 2002 to 2006, they worked as an R&D Engineer at Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology. Steven then moved on to Arex Fitness as the Chief Mechanical Engineer from 2006 to 2010. During this time, they designed and manufactured a series of ODM treadmills and filed a new folding mechanism patent for treadmills. From 2010 to 2011, they worked as a Research Manager at Penn State University where they co-developed "Acoustic Tweezers" that can manipulate a single cell in three dimensions, and invented a new class of Acoustic Metamaterials to achieve total reflection and negative refraction. In 2011, they were invited by NASA to work as a Visiting Scholar at NASA Langley Research Center to help resolve cabin noise issue of next-generation rotorcraft vehicles. From 2012 to 2018, they worked at Illumina as a Staff Product Development Engineer and Senior Product Development Engineer - Systems Engineering and Fluidics. During this time, they were the fluidics lead and cross-functional root-cause-analysis team lead of iSeq 100, subsystem owner of NextSeq 1000/2000 cartridge, and subsystem owner of NextSeq 500. From 2018 to 2021, they worked at BGI Group as the Director, Integrated Fluidics and System Engineering and Senior Manager, Integrated Fluidics Technology. During this time, they were the core team lead of DNBSEQ-E series portable genetic sequencers, and launched the 1st product DNBSEQ-E5 in 2021 that can complete sequencing of pathogenic micro-organisms within 4.5 Hours. Steven is currently the Director of Research and Development at ELEGEN.

Steven LIN has a PhD in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Penn State University, a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Chang Gung University, and an MS in Applied Mechanics from National Taiwan University.
