Job description

Elephas, a Madison, WI-based biotechnology company, is seeking a driven Accountant with good understanding of GAAP and financial principles.  The Accountant will be a self-starter with the drive, and determination to make this position successful. In this role, you will work with your team to carry out all of the transactions for Elephas and its wholly owned subsidiary.  The mission is to validate, organize, and monitor financial data as it is generated, ensure NetSuite is updated in a timely and accurate manner, and to be a steward of financial data in all our systems. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Purchasing
  • Make vendor purchases and provide updates on shipping status as necessary
  • Communicate with vendors and teammates for order status updates when necessary (shipping delays, returns, etc.)
  • Track receiving of purchases and reflect the receiving of items in accounting system
  1. AP
  • Collect invoices from vendor websites, AP email box and physical mailbox and enter them into ERP system
  • Maintain AP system, including processing of invoices, creation of payables schedule and processing of payments
  1. G/L
  • Maintain the general ledger through journal entries

  • Carry out Accounts Receivable billings and collections

  • Assist with the monthly and year-end financial close processes

  • Reconcile bank & credit card accounts

  • Participate in and lead process improvement

  • Support the development, documentation, implementation and testing of internal controls

  • Support the year-end fiscal audit and annual report processes when necessary

  • Serve as backup for other accounting functions, as needed

  1. Ad hoc projects
  • Assist with certain research topics

  • Document work procedures

Education/Experience/Skills

  • A.A. or B.S. degree in Accounting

  • Experience with or knowledge of ERP systems, NetSuite preferred

  • Advanced skills in Excel is required

  • Have good understanding of US GAAP and Accounting Principles

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Motivated and have a strong desire to take on new challenges and eager to make an impact

  • Handling sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity
