Rafael Valentin

Bioinformatics Scientist at Elysium Health

Rafael Valentin, PhD, is a Bioinformatics Scientist at Elysium Health since July 2022, focusing on statistical analyses of clinical data for biomarker discovery and product development through machine learning. Previously, as a Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at Princeton University (August 2019 - July 2022), Rafael assessed biotic and abiotic effects on community structure using Next-Generation Sequencing and environmental DNA analyses. At Rutgers University, Rafael served as a Postdoctoral Researcher (September 2012 - July 2019), developing molecular techniques for target detection and establishing monitoring protocols, as well as managing a new molecular laboratory. As a doctoral candidate, Rafael specialized in detecting species using environmental DNA. Early career included roles as a Project Manager and qPCR technician at Rutgers and as a Dental Technician in the US Air Force Reserve, and Munitions Systems Specialist in the United States Air Force. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Ecology and Evolution from Rutgers University and a Bachelor's in Biological and Physical Sciences.
