Vahan Simonyan

Vahan Simonyan has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Vahan worked at Embleema as the Chief Scientist, where they were involved in the establishment of global marketplaces for healthcare data stock exchanges and served as an advisor to national governments on healthcare digitization, data analysis, and policy decisions. Vahan also had expertise in big data aggregations, standardization, and analysis, and was responsible for business development in healthcare data infrastructures. Prior to this, they were the Senior Director of Bioinformatics at CRISPR Therapeutics.

Simonyan's work experience also includes a significant role at the Food And Drug Administration (FDA) as the Lead scientist, Director of Bioinformatics, and Principal Investigator. Vahan invented the multicomponent cloud infrastructure HIVE and the HIVE-hexagon DNA sequence aligner. Additionally, they developed MC-FuncDA, a highly parallelized functional discriminant paradigm. Vahan led a team of scientists and played a key role in securing sizable grants from NIH and FDA.

Before joining the FDA, Simonyan worked as a scientific researcher and developer for organizations such as NIH, Georgetown University, Penn State, and Royal Bank of Canada. During this time, they contributed to projects related to medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, load balancing heterogeneous systems, and molecular visualizations.

Simonyan started their career as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Pittsburgh, where they conducted theoretical and experimental research on novel carbon materials for hydrogen transportation. Vahan also developed software packages for computer modeling and studied the chemical interactions of carbon and borocarbon nanotubes with hydrogen.

Vahan Simonyan has a strong educational background in the field of Physics and Mathematics. Vahan obtained their PhD from Lomonosov Moscow State University (MSU) between 1994 and 1997. Following this, they pursued further studies at the University of Pittsburgh from 1998 to 2001, where they worked as a Post Doctoral fellow in the field of Nanotechnology.
