Sam Havens

Sam Havens graduated from Hamilton College in 1965 and joined the Prudential Employee Benefit Division in the Philadelphia sales office. After 5 years in various sales positions, Mr. Havens left to attend Temple Law School. He graduated in 1973 and joined a local law firm. In 1974, Mr. Havens returned to Prudential as Vice President in its HMO Division. He was named President of that unit in 1981. In 1985, this unit was merged into the Employee Benefit Division and Mr. Havens was promoted to Senior Vice President and in 1990 was named President. Mr. Havens retired in 1996, and for the past 23 years has served as investor, board member and advisor to more than 20 early-stage health service firms including Teladoc, Vital Decisions, MedeAnalytics, Avalon Healthcare Services, Resolution Health, Apixio, National Imaging Associations (NIA), MedSolutions, Abacus Insights, and Cecelia Health. He also served on the Board of GHAA-AHIP for 15 years and as Chairman from 1990-1992. Mr. Havens served on the Board and as Chair of the Compensation Committee of RI Blue Cross from 2004-2011.
