Stephen Webb

Senior Data Scientist at Emburse

Stephen Webb, PhD has a diverse work experience starting from their role as a Teaching Assistant at Georgia Institute of Technology, where they taught calculus and differential equations. Stephen then moved on to Stony Brook University, where they served as a Teaching Assistant, teaching Physics I & II for Life Sciences and Modern Physics labs.

Stephen's research experience includes working as a Research Assistant at Brookhaven National Laboratory, focusing on developing three-dimensional models for free-electrons lasers and studying dispersion relations and kinetic equations for coherent electron cooling.

Stephen then joined Tech-X Corporation as a Research Scientist, contributing to the development of the VSim C++ electromagnetic particle-in-cell framework and bringing r-z cylindrical electromagnetic particle-in-cell features to product readiness.

Stephen's next role was at RadiaSoft LLC, where they held various positions including Associate Group Leader, Group Leader, and Senior Research Scientist. During their time at RadiaSoft, they served as a Principal Investigator on multiple grants, including an Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator grant, and developed open-source Python codes for modeling electromagnetic plasmas.

Following their tenure at RadiaSoft, Stephen worked at Hotel Engine as a Senior Data Scientist before joining the game show Jeopardy! as a Jeopardy! Champion. Currently, they hold the position of Senior Data Scientist at Emburse.

Throughout their career, Stephen has demonstrated expertise in data science, research, and teaching, making valuable contributions to various organizations in their respective fields.

Stephen Webb, PhD, completed their education in physics beginning at Parkview High School from 1998 to 2002. Stephen then pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology, completing it from 2002 to 2006. Stephen furthered their education at Stony Brook University, where they obtained a PhD in Physics from 2006 to 2011.

In addition to their formal education, Stephen Webb has also obtained various certifications in the field of data science. These include completing courses such as "Sequence Models" from Coursera in March 2023, "Demand Analytics" from Coursera in October 2021, "Docker for Data Scientists" from LinkedIn in October 2020, "SQL for Data Science" from Coursera in August 2020, and "Improving Deep Neural Networks: Hyperparameter tuning, Regularization and Optimization" from Coursera in November 2018. Stephen has also completed courses such as "Structuring Machine Learning Projects" in November 2018, "Neural Networks and Deep Learning" in October 2018, and "Machine Learning" in April 2018, both from Coursera.
