Ilaria Guella

Genomics Scientist at Emedgene

Ilaria Guella has extensive work experience in the field of genomics and genetics. Ilaria currently holds the position of Genomic Scientist at Illumina since 2021. Prior to that, they worked as a Genomics Scientist at Emedgene starting in March 2021.

From 2016 to 2019, Ilaria worked as a Research Associate at the Centre for Applied Neurogenetics, The University of British Columbia. Ilaria'srole involved using whole-exome sequencing for improving seizure disorder diagnosis, studying genetic variability related to neurodegenerative diseases, and utilizing advanced techniques like genome-wide genotyping and next-generation sequencing.

Ilaria also served as a Senior Geneticist at Neurocode Labs, Inc. Ilaria was responsible for setting up the lab and obtaining DAP accreditation. Ilaria'swork mainly focused on analyzing genetic test results, variant interpretation, and drafting clinical reports for sequencing-based seizure disorder diagnostic tests.

Prior to joining Neurocode Labs, Inc., Ilaria worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Applied Neurogenetics, University of British Columbia, from 2013 to 2016. During this time, they continued their research on genetics of neurologic diseases, with a focus on using whole-exome sequencing for diagnosis and novel disease gene discovery.

Ilaria's earlier experience includes working as an Assistant Project Scientist at UC Irvine from 2011 to 2013, where they conducted gene expression analysis and identified novel mutations related to schizophrenia using a whole-genome sequencing approach. Ilaria also worked as a Post-doc at the University of Milan from 2010 to 2011, conducting mutational screening and association studies of candidate genes in a population of Parkinson patients and controls.

Overall, Ilaria Guella has a strong background in genomics and genetics, with expertise in using advanced sequencing techniques for disease diagnosis and gene discovery.

Ilaria Guella's education history begins in 2001 when they enrolled in Università degli Studi di Milano for their Bachelor's degree in Medical Biotechnology. Ilaria completed the program in 2004. Following this, they pursued a Master's degree in Medical Biotechnologies and Molecular Medicine at the same university, graduating in 2006. Continuing their academic journey, Ilaria then enrolled in a PhD program in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Università degli Studi di Milano, which they completed in 2009.
