EMERGE
Sandra Castro-Valadez is a dedicated student pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Northeastern University, with an anticipated graduation in 2026. Currently a Scholar at EMERGE since March 2020, Sandra has benefited from a program designed to assist low-income students in college admissions. Sandra's professional experience includes a Technical Support Engineer Co-op at Vestmark, where solutions to customer support cases were developed while gaining knowledge in the financial industry. Additionally, Sandra has served as an Academic Tutor with EVkids, helping a 4th-grade student with homework and skill enhancement, and as an English Tutor for the Spirit Education Foundation, providing support to a Guatemalan student in mastering English concepts. Sandra's early work experience includes a role as a Fast Food Team Member at Whataburger, which honed skills in customer service and teamwork.

EMERGE
High-achieving students from low-income backgrounds often face significant barriers when it comes to accessing the nation’s top colleges. EMERGE partners with local school districts to help these students ignite their potential and gain access to top colleges that offer generous financial aid. EMERGE students graduate at eight times the national average for students in their demographic, frequently with minimal debt. Even more, they learn to maximize their unique strengths and talents and embrace their identities to become influential leaders in their own lives and communities.
