Denise Shields

Denise Shields is currently the Director of Curriculum Development and Delivery, Research at eMindful. Denise has over 10 years of experience in leadership development and coaching. Denise has a strong passion for helping others reach their full potential and has dedicated their career to making a positive impact in the lives of others.

Denise began their career as a Manager, Coaching at Empathia, Inc. where they led the development and delivery of new coaching and benefits integration services. Under Denise's leadership, the team delivered highly rated service that resulted in positive behavior change for their clients. Denise was also responsible for designing and developing an innovative online leadership coaching service that was projected to improve leader effectiveness of managers and supervisors.

In 2011, Denise transitioned to Northwestern Mutual where they served as a Leadership Development Consultant. In this role, Denise was responsible for designing and implementing learning programs to support leaders' skill development. Denise's work was instrumental in helping Northwestern Mutual's leaders reach their full potential.

Most recently, Denise has been with Humana Wellness Solutions since 2013 where they currently serve as the Director, Wellness Coaching. In this role, Denise is responsible for the overall strategic and operational leadership of the Wellness Coaching team of 80 associates who deliver health and well-being coaching to individuals from client organizations. As a resident mindfulness expert, Denise also contributes to the company's Mindfulness to Reduce Stress learning series, weekly mindfulness practice sessions, and Mindful Leader Learning Circles.

Denise is a highly experienced and successful leader with a proven track record of making a positive impact in the lives of others. Denise is passionate about their work and committed to helping others reach their full potential.

Denise Shields has a Ph.D. in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service from Cardinal Stritch University. Denise is a Certified Mindfulness Teacher Professional from the Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP) at the Awareness Training Institute and the Greater Good Science Center at the University of CA Berkeley. Denise also has an ICF Certification in Coaching from Newfield Network. Denise Shields has a M.A. in Organizational Communication from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a B.M. in Music Education from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

They are on a team with Zev Suissa - Chief Innovation Officer, Strategic Partnerships, Himanshu Chaudhary - Director of Software Engineering and Compliance, and Ruth Wolever - Chief Science Advisor. Denise Shields reports to Mary Pigatti, Chief Executive Officer.
