Dr. Lenekia McKnight

Dr. Lenekia McKnight, DNP, MSN, RNC, LSSGB has a diverse range of work experience in the healthcare field. Dr. Lenekia started their career as an Oncology Nurse at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital from 1999 to 2007, where they assisted in the care of patients undergoing oncological interventions. Dr. Lenekia then served as a Clinical Nurse Educator at the same hospital from 2007 to 2012, where they developed and implemented educational programs for the nursing staff. From 2012 to 2015, Dr. McKnight held the position of Director of Nursing Education and Diabetes Care Center at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, overseeing competency assessments and serving on various committees related to quality improvement and patient safety.

In 2015, Dr. McKnight joined Emory University Hospital, initially as the Manager of Nursing Education-Ambulatory Services. In this role, they identified competency gaps and learning needs of the nursing staff, and actively participated in committees focused on patient safety and infection control. Dr. Lenekia later took on the role of Manager of Covid Results for Ambulatory Services, leading a team of nurses responsible for contacting patients with Covid-19 results, providing education, and arranging appointments. Additionally, Dr. McKnight served as the Interim Manager of Covid Nurse Teams from 2020 to 2021. Currently, at Emory University Hospital, they hold the position of Director of Clinical Education, where they oversee educational duties and further contributes to the organization's quality improvement efforts.

In addition to their hospital experience, Dr. McKnight has also worked as a Clinical Instructor at Darton State College from 2007 to 2015. In this role, they provided clinical supervision and education to nursing students, prepared educational materials, and familiarized students with medical/surgical and oncology units.

Prior to that, they completed their Master of Science in Nursing degree with a focus on Education at the University of Phoenix in 2012. In 2006, they earned their Bachelor's degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse from Albany State University. Before that, they completed their Associate of Science degree in Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse at Darton College in 1999. Additionally, Dr. McKnight holds a certification as a Lean Six Sigma Green Belt for Healthcare, which they obtained in 2014 from the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers.
