Brad Pennington is currently an advisor at EmpInfo. Prior to that, they were the Chief Risk Officer at PayJoy from July 2018 to February 2020. Brad was responsible for leading a risk strategy overhaul that tripled profitability per application for the Mexico finance business. Brad was also instrumental to the successful Series B raise with Greylock. In addition, they led the data science team that delivered custom KYC and risk scoring for underbanked consumers globally.
Before PayJoy, Brad was the Chief Risk Officer at Prosper Marketplace from February 2012 to June 2018. Brad was responsible for the analytics driving the underwriting strategy, ratings, expected loss rates and expected returns for a portfolio of P2P closed-end consumer loans. Brad also educated institutional and retail investors about how a balanced portfolio of consumer loans fits into a diversified investment portfolio. In addition, they worked across business units on projects such as optimizing response and approval rates across both online and traditional marketing channels, loan verification and fraud identification, and the technical implementation of statistical models that drive decision-making.
The technical environment Brad worked in consisted of production and non-production SQL servers with large amounts of data (both structured and unstructured). Brad mined available data using open source packages (primarily R) to create models and insights that are implemented in the production environment.
Brad Pennington has a BS in Finance, Statistics, Economics and Math from The Wharton School. Brad also has an International Baccalaureate from AHUWC.
