Cheng Xu has a diverse work experience spanning different industries. From 2016 to 2019, Cheng served as an R&D Manager at Contemporary Marine Biotech, a startup in Shenzhen focused on manufacturing functional foods from marine resources. In this role, Cheng was responsible for functional foods R&D, patent application assistance, management of a joint research lab, participation in manufacturing, and writing business plans to attract investment.
In 2019, Cheng joined Worcester Polytechnic Institute as a Graduate Research Student. As a teaching and research assistant, Cheng communicated with students to enhance their understanding of experimental processes and improve their experiment design. Cheng also mentored undergraduates in experiment design and analysis.
Currently, Cheng is a Research Associate at EmpressTx, where they have held two positions. As a Research Associate from January to September 2022, Cheng contributed to the research projects of the company. In September 2022, Cheng was promoted to the position of Research Associate II.
Cheng Xu completed their Bachelor's degree in Food Quality and Safety at Sichuan University of Science & Engineering from 2009 to 2013. Cheng then pursued a Master's degree in Food Science at Guangdong Ocean University from 2013 to 2016. Currently, they are obtaining another Master's degree in Biochemistry at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, which they started in 2019.
