Rafael González is Head of the Iberia area of Enel Global Power Generation , Enel's business line that deals with the generation of energy from conventional and renewable sources.
Rafael González has gained almost 30 years of experience in the energy sector, of which more than 20 years in the construction and management of business activities in the field of renewable energies. He was responsible for the company's growing fleet, with over 100 plants and a capacity of over 3 GW in the United States and Canada. Among the many projects managed, we recall a unique set of wind, solar, geothermal and river hydroelectric technologies.
Before joining EGP-NA, he was head of Enel Green Power's Operations & Maintenance division for four years. At the headquarters in Rome he was responsible for the Operations & Maintenance of over 750 renewable energy plants and coordinated more than 1,800 people in 16 different countries. Prior to that, he was Deputy General Manager and Head of Development and Project Management at Enel-Unión Fenosa Energías Renovables SA, a joint venture between Enel and Unión Fenosa, specializing in investments in renewable energy and cogeneration projects in Spain. He was a member of the board of directors of the Spanish Wind Energy Association (Asociación Empresarial Eólica) from 2005 to 2010, a period in which he helped to exceed more than double its capacity (from 10 GW to 22 GW).
Rafael began his energy career as an engineer at Foster Wheeler and later as a Project Manager at Repsol Petróleo. Since 1993 he has carried out numerous functions at Unión Fenosa Energías Especiales and Unión Fenosa Ingeniería, both subsidiaries of the Unión Fenosa Group.
