Gavin Lawson

Gavin Lawson has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Gavin began their career at Computer Sciences Corporation as a Contractor, where they received extensive training in the Hogan banking application and worked in development and support of the Hogan application at Suncorp. Gavin then moved on to CITEC as a Contractor, where they successfully completed a Y2K conversion project. Gavin converted the billing system and material maintenance to a new version of MIMS. Following this, they joined QR as a Senior Technical Analyst and worked there for almost a decade. Gavin then transitioned to Suncorp as a Software Engineer, where they focused on ETL design and development using Datastage, AIX, and Oracle. After leaving Suncorp, they joined SPARQ Solutions as a Data Analyst Modeller, where they managed user requirements, data modeling, solution design, and problem analysis for various systems. Gavin also managed governance and compliance of solutions for supportability. Currently, they are working at Energy Queensland as a Digital Specialist, providing technical knowledge, experience, and leadership in Business Intelligence. Gavin has also served as a Business Intelligence Lead in the same company. Overall, Gavin Lawson has a strong background in various technical roles and has demonstrated expertise in areas such as business intelligence, data modeling, system analysis, and ETL design and development.

Gavin Lawson has a diverse education history. Gavin completed a Graduate Diploma in Artificial Intelligence at the University of New England (AU) from 1997 to 2000. Prior to that, they pursued a Masters degree in Information Technology at QUT (Queensland University of Technology) from 1987 to 1993.

In addition to their formal education, Gavin Lawson has also obtained various certifications. These include the Jira Fundamentals Badge from Atlassian, obtained in April 2023. Gavin also holds the certification for Data Engineering with Databricks, obtained in April 2021, and certifications in Business Process Improvement, Creating a Culture of Service, and Design Thinking: Data Intelligence, all obtained in February 2021.

Furthermore, Gavin Lawson has acquired several certifications related to Databricks, such as Introduction to SQL on Databricks, Databricks Command Line Interface (CLI) Fundamentals, How to Code-Along with Self-Paced Courses, Introduction to Apache Spark Architecture, Quick Reference: CI/CD, Quick Reference: Spark Architecture, and What's New In Spark 3.0. All of these certifications were obtained in January 2021. Lastly, they hold certifications in AWS Databricks Workspace Deployment, Fundamentals of Lakehouse Architecture, How to Manage Clusters in Databricks, How to Query and Visualize Data Using Databricks, How to Share Data Insights Using Databricks, How to Upload Data to the Databricks Workspace Using Databricks, and Just Enough Python for Apache Spark™, all obtained in December 2020.
