James Selby has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. James started their career at News International, where they worked as a Classified Advertising Sales Executive and later became a Business Development Executive. James then transitioned to the training department, where they were responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating training programs for commercial executives. James also expanded their role to include company-wide soft skills, managerial, and team-building training. In 2004, they played a crucial role in establishing the training department at the New York Post.

In 2008, James joined News UK, where they held various roles, including HR Manager, OD Manager, and Head of Employee Engagement. In these positions, they led initiatives such as launching the company's first-ever graduate programme, managing internal communications for key projects, and overseeing employee engagement and corporate responsibility activities.

James later founded their own consultancy, The Happy Engagement Company, where they provided change, communication, and employee engagement services to leading brands such as GVC and Ladbrokes Coral Group. James consulted senior board members and leaders on various change initiatives, including internal communications design, CSR, and employee engagement lifecycle analysis.

In 2018, James joined GVC Group as Head of Retail Engagement, leading business change and engagement strategies for the company's retail estate, which included Ladbrokes and Coral. James contributed to the company's success through their work on people strategies, such as developing communication and engagement strategies in response to government changes in law.

Currently, James is working at Entain as the Head of Engagement. James broadened their role to incorporate change communications, engagement, and leadership for retail learning across the shop and field estate. James collaborates with key stakeholders to develop engagement and learning strategies impacting over 14,000 colleagues.

James Selby attended Reigate Grammar School from 1987 to 1995. James then went on to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Modern Language Studies with a focus on French and Italian at the University of Leicester from 1995 to 1998.
