Thomas H. Stoner, Jr. has a diverse work experience in the energy and climate change sectors. In 1995, they served as CEO of Highland Energy. From 1998 to October 2008, they were the CEO of Econergy International Corporation (EIC). In 2009, they became the CEO of Evergreen Energy Inc. until July 2011. In August 2011, they co-founded Project Butterfly, a not-for-profit initiative focused on addressing global climate change. Additionally, since September 2012, they have been working towards establishing an Energy Infrastructure and Other Private Real Assets investment partnership called New Alchemy Energy Partners. Since December 2014, they have served as the CEO of Entelligent, an analytics firm that optimizes portfolios for climate change risk and changing patterns in energy usage.

Thomas H. Stoner, Jr. completed their Bachelor's degree in International Economics from Hampshire College in the year 1982. After that, they pursued a Master's degree in Accounting and Finance from The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) between 1986 and 1987. In 2012, Thomas enrolled in the MIT Sloan School of Management to further their education in the field of Understanding and Solving Complex Business Problems using a System Dynamics Approach. It is unclear whether they completed a degree at MIT Sloan School of Management, as no end year is provided.
