Laerte Terres worked as a Researcher at EPAGRI starting in March 2017. Prior to that, they were a Plant Breeder I at RiceTec Sementes LTDA from January 2015 to February 2017.
Laerte Terres completed their Engineer's Degree at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas from 2003 to 2007. Laerte then pursued their Master's Degree in Agronomy with a focus on Plant Breeding at the same university from 2008 to 2009. Finally, Laerte obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Agronomy with a specialization in Plant Breeding from the Universidade Federal de Pelotas from 2010 to 2014.

Vinculada ao Governo do Estado por meio da Secretaria de Estado da Agricultura e da Pesca, a Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária e Extensão Rural de Santa Catarina (Epagri) nasceu em 1991, quando foram incorporadas numa só instituição a Empresa Catarinense de Pesquisa Agropecuária S.A. (Empasc), a Associação de Crédito e Assistência Rural de Santa Catarina (Acaresc), a Associação de Crédito e Assistência Pesqueira de Santa Catarina (Acarpesc) e o Instituto de Apicultura de Santa Catarina (Iasc).
