Kevin Carlin, PhD

Principal Scientist at EpiBiologics

Kevin Carlin, PhD has a diverse work experience spanning over 20 years. Kevin has worked in various roles in different companies.

Beginning in 2000, Carlin worked as a Research and Development Engineer at Dow Chemical Saran R&D, where they created a database for characterizing process conditions and developed statistical process control charts.

In 2001, Carlin worked as a Production Engineer at Dow Chemical Contract Manufacturing Services, where they scaled up the production of a photoactive polymer and ensured process documentation met GMP standards.

From 2002 to 2007, Carlin held multiple positions at Dow Chemical. As a Research Engineer, they contributed to the development of a heterogeneous catalysis process and developed a kinetic model and regeneration process. Kevin then transitioned to a Process Improvement Engineer role, where they worked on a Six Sigma Green Belt project and managed a facility upgrade project.

In 2007, Carlin joined Zeachem Inc as a Process Development Engineer, where they evaluated process alternatives and organized data for process cost estimation.

From 2010 to 2016, Carlin pursued their PhD in Protein Engineering at North Carolina State University - Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Their research focused on generating a bivalent combinatorial library and developing high-affinity ligands.

In 2017, Carlin joined QLSF Biotherapeutics as a Scientist, where they generated stable cell lines and developed methods for sequencing and cloning antibodies.

From 2018 to 2021, Carlin worked at IGM Biosciences as a Scientist and Scientist II. Kevin evaluated imaging and seeding technologies, guided IgM's imaging platform development, and cloned a cell line for a Phase 1 campaign.

Since 2021, Carlin has been a Senior Scientist at Harpoon, where they work with a small team to express and characterize Harpoon therapeutics and targets, focusing on scale-up and assay development.

In 2023, Carlin will join EpiBiologics as a Principal Scientist.

Overall, Carlin has a strong background in protein engineering, process development, and scientific research across various industries.

Kevin Carlin, Ph.D. received their Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Washington in 2002. Following their undergraduate studies, they pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) at North Carolina State University from 2010 to 2016, specializing in Protein Engineering within the field of Chemical Engineering.
