Laura Weidner is the Vice President of Government Affairs and Advocacy at the Epilepsy Foundation. Laura has been in this role for 3 years and 11 months. Prior to that, they were the Senior Director of Federal Government Relations at the National MS Society for 8 years and 10 months. In this role, Laura directed the Society’s legislative, regulatory and activist engagement strategy on access to affordable, quality health coverage, long-term services and supports, disability rights and Social Security. Laura also represented the needs of people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) and their families on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies. In addition, Laura held leadership positions in national coalitions and directed planning and hosting of the Society’s annual Public Policy Conference and Hill Day. Laura started their career as a Government Affairs Associate at the Child Welfare League of America where they monitored, analyzed, and weighed in on federal legislation and regulations affecting vulnerable children, youth, and families. During their time at CWLA, Laura was successful in stopping harmful CMS regulations that would have restricted vital services for children in foster care, the passage of the Fostering Connections to Success and Increasing Adoptions Act, and temporary increases to State Medicaid and Title IV-E programs in economic recovery law.
Laura Weidner has a Doctor of Law (J.D.) from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Psychology from Ohio University.
