Cherie Ng has a diverse work experience in the field of research and immunology. Cherie is currently working at Equillium, Inc. as the Vice President of Research since February 2023. Before that, they held the positions of Senior Director of Research from February 2020 to March 2023 and Director of Research from October 2017 to February 2020.
Prior to their role at Equillium, Inc., Cherie worked at aTyr Pharma, Inc. as a Scientist II from January 2016 to October 2017 and as a Scientist from September 2014 to January 2016. Cherie'sresponsibilities at aTyr Pharma included designing and implementing innovative methods to investigate the immunological role of non-canonical domains of tRNA synthetases.
Cherie has also gained valuable research experience at The Scripps Research Institute, where they worked as a Senior Postdoctoral Fellow in the Laboratory of Dr. Michael Oldstone from October 2013 to September 2014, and as a Postdoctoral Fellow from March 2009 to October 2013. During their time at The Scripps Research Institute, Cherie conducted research on immunological cellular, molecular, and biochemical mechanisms contributing to viral infection.
Cherie'searlier experiences include working as a Graduate Student at the University of Washington School of Public Health from September 2004 to February 2009, where they investigated the impact of maternal neutralizing antibodies on perinatal HIV transmission and infection.
Cherie also worked as a Research & Laboratory Specialist at the University of Virginia School of Medicine from August 2003 to August 2004, where they independently designed and implemented assays to diagnose and genotype infection with Giardia lamblia from human stool.
Cherie started their career as a Master's Student in Infectious Disease at UC Berkeley School of Public Health from August 2001 to May 2003, where they conducted studies on the views and policies of East Bay area hospitals and surgeons on HBV, HCV, and HIV-positive surgeons.
Throughout their career, Cherie has published several peer-reviewed publications and played a role in collaborations with experts in molecular biology and immunology. Cherie has also demonstrated leadership skills by managing lab members and serving as a student representative on the admissions committee.
Cherie Ng holds a PhD in Pathobiology from the University of Washington, which they obtained from 2004 to 2009. Prior to that, they received a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Infectious Disease from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health from 2001 to 2003. Cherie also has a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Biology, General from Earlham College, which they completed from 1998 to 2000. Furthermore, they pursued Biology studies at UC San Diego from 1996 to 1998. Cherie's education journey began at The College Preparatory School from 1992 to 1996.
