Venkataraman R K has extensive work experience in the banking and insurance industry, spanning over several roles and companies. Venkataraman started their career as a Sales Officer at Nestlé in 1995 and later worked as a Product Manager in Retail Banking at Global Trust Bank until 2002. Venkataraman then joined ABN AMRO Bank as an Area Manager in Personal Banking, where they worked until 2005. Venkataraman then moved on to YES BANK as a Product Head, before joining Kotak Mahindra Bank as a Regional Manager and Vice President. Venkataraman worked at Kotak Mahindra Bank until 2009, during which they held various managerial positions. From 2009 to 2016, they worked at Exide Life Insurance, starting as a Deputy General Manager and eventually becoming a General Manager. Currently, they are employed at Equitas Small Finance Bank as an Executive Vice President and Head of Bacassurance & Investment.

Venkataraman R K's education history begins with their higher secondary education at Madras Christian College from 1982 to 1988, where they pursued a degree in higher secondary studies. Following this, they attended the University of Madras from 1989 to 1991, specializing in physics and earning a BSC degree. Venkataraman then proceeded to pursue an MBA in Marketing & Finance from 1993 to 1995. In 2019, Venkataraman R K attended the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and achieved excellence in strategic execution. Lastly, in 2023, they completed the MDP program from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.
