Annelien Bredenoord

Annelien Bredenoord holds multiple prestigious positions, serving as the President and Professor of Ethics of (Biomedical) Technologies at Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam since September 2021, while also acting as the Rector Magnificus. In January 2024, Bredenoord will assume the role of Chair of the Supervisory Board at the Netherlands Institute for Social Research. Bredenoord is a Member of the KNAW - Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, contributing as vice-Chair of the Council for Medical Sciences and a Member of The Young Academy since April 2014. Additional recent roles include membership in the High Level Expert Group on the Future of Research & Innovation in Europe and serving as a Senator and parliamentary group leader from June 2015 to June 2023. Bredenoord's academic focus encompasses ethical issues in biomedical technologies, with a notable tenure at UMC Utrecht as Professor of Ethics of Biomedical Innovation. Educated at Maastricht University and Leiden University, Bredenoord obtained a PhD in Medical Ethics and has significantly influenced the discourse on emerging biomedical technologies.
