Azfar Kamal

Azfar Kamal, Ph.D., PMP, LSBB has extensive experience in various roles within the engineering and product management field. Azfar has worked for multiple companies, starting with Karachi Nuclear Power Plant as an Asst. Operation Engineer from 1987 to 1990. Azfar then joined Gordon-Piatt Energy Group as a Project Engineer in R&D, where they designed and developed low NOx Power burners and received three patents still in use by other companies.

In 1998, Kamal moved to Rheem Manufacturing as a Senior Engineer in the Heating Platform department. Here, they led multiple high-visibility NPI heating gas and oil furnace design and development projects, including the development of an industry-first downflow modulating 90+ furnace. Azfar also conducted research on NOx.

Kamal then joined General Electric Consumer & Industrial in 2000 as a Black Belt DFSS/Senior Professional/Lab Manager. Azfar served as a Design Manager for both A and C programs, and was the resident Gas Combustion Expert for GE Range.

In 2006, Kamal joined Lennox International as an Engineering Manager for IAQ and later became a Senior Principal Engineer. Azfar provided team leadership for the IAQ engineering department, led NPI projects, and managed resources and team budgets. Azfar also played a key role in driving quality and cost-saving initiatives, saving the company significant amounts of money.

Finally, Kamal joined ESAB in 2014 and has since held several roles including Director of Engineering - Global Gas Equipment, Head of PMO & Product Portfolio Management, Director of R&D USA & Germany, and currently serves as the Director of Global R&D Torches-PPE & Product Management Gouging-Accessories. In these roles, they have been responsible for global R&D, product management, and PMO functions, particularly focusing on welding equipment solutions, welding PPE, welding torches, carbon gouging, welding accessories, and LIP welding equipment.

Throughout their career, Kamal has demonstrated expertise in project management, engineering leadership, innovation, and strategy development, with a strong focus on delivering high-quality products, cost reduction, and driving continuous improvement.

Azfar Kamal, Ph.D., PMP, LSBB has a Ph.D. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Combustion and Thermal Sciences from the University of Oklahoma. Azfar also holds a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from NED University of Engineering and Technology. In addition to their academic degrees, they have obtained the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute. Azfar also has certifications as a Certified Gas Engineer (CGE) from the American Society of Gas Engineers (ASGE) and as a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the 6 SIGMA INSTITUTE.
