George Thomas has a diverse range of work experience spanning over three decades. GEORGE most recently served as the Executive Vice President (Corporate Services) at ESAF Bank starting in March 2017. Prior to that, they held the role of Executive Director at ESAF Microfinance and Investments Pvt.Ltd from June 2008 to February 2017. George also worked at ESAF as the Director of Operations from August 2004 to May 2008. Before joining ESAF, they worked with the Department of Agriculture, Government of Kerala, where they held the positions of Assistant Director from January 2001 to July 2004 and Agriculture Officer from December 1992 to December 2000. Earlier in their career, George worked as a Program Officer at the Indian Social Institute from May 1988 to December 1992 and as the Chief Community Organizer at Christian Children's Fund from May 1987 to May 1988.

George Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from the University of Gorakhpur, which they obtained from 1983 to 1987. GEORGE later pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Cooperation and Rural Studies from Andhra University in 1991-1992. GEORGE then completed a Master's degree in Environmental Science from Sikkim Manipal University - Distance Education from 2002 to 2004. In 2010, George obtained a Certificate in Social Leadership from Harvard Business School.
