Following this, from 1985 to 1987, Els attended Charles Montaigne where they studied at the Mode academie. In 1987, they continued their education at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) and studied Kunstgeschiedenis until 1988. Els then enrolled in the University of Amsterdam from 1988 to 1991, focusing on Rechten. In 1993, they attended Onderwijscentrum Horeca, graduating with an SVH diploma in 1994. Els' most recent educational experience was at Holos, Utrecht, where they studied at the Academie voor holistische massage therapie from 2007 to 2008.
