Hongbing Zhang has extensive work experience, beginning in 1995 when they were a Postdoctoral Researcher at UCSF. In 1998, they moved to Chiron Corporation as a Scientist R&D. Two years later, they joined Xenogen Corporation as a Project Manager/Senior Scientist. In 2002, they began working at Five Prime Therapeutics, Inc. in a variety of roles, including Investigator, Immuno-Oncology/Pharmacology, Investigator, Oncology/Pharmacology, Investigator, Innovation/Pharmacology, Associated Director, Pharmacology, and Senior Scientist, Biology. In 2018, they joined Eureka Therapeutics, Inc. as Vice President, Drug Discovery, Senior Director, Research, and Senior Director, Strategic Development.

Hongbing Zhang earned a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Peking University between 1984 and 1988. hongbing then went on to Baylor College of Medicine, where they completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Genetics from 1990 to 1995.
