Martina Angela Caretta, PhD, is a prominent academic and expert in human geography and environmental sustainability. Currently, Caretta serves as a Board Member at climes and as a Horizon Europe Expert for the European Research Executive Agency, while holding the position of Associate Professor at Lund University since January 2021. Previously, Caretta was an Assistant Professor at West Virginia University and worked as a consultant for UNESCO and the World Bank. With extensive research experience, Caretta’s doctoral research focused on small-scale irrigation farming in drylands of Africa, and earlier roles included advising the European Union on sustainable development at the UN. Caretta holds a PhD in Geography from Stockholm University, an MA in Environmental Studies & Sustainability Science from Lund University, and a BA in Development Studies from Università degli Studi di Padova.
